Turkey: IPI and partners condemn access block on independent news outlet T24

The International Press Institute (IPI) and 12 press freedom organisations and professional press associations stand with independent news portal T24 following an access block imposed by the Istanbul 1st Criminal Court of Peace, urging authorities to immediately reverse the decision.

Media rights groups warn that the blocking of T24, one of Turkey’s most widely read independent news outlets, represents a grave attack on journalism amid eroding democracy, rule of law, and press freedom in the country. The decision was taken on baseless grounds under the scope of the “My Family is Safe” operation, which has previously been used to target journalists, make arrests, and block access to news sites and social media accounts.

Calling the measure unlawful and unconstitutional, the signatory organisations emphasize that blocking T24 directly obstructs the public’s right to receive information and vow to continue defending the profession and media workers.
