IPI has developed an innovative platform to systematically track and analyze how government institutions respond to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. Our comprehensive platform monitors and evaluates FOI requests submitted by journalists, civil society organizations (CSOs), activists, lawyers, academics, and citizens across Turkey. By collecting and analyzing this valuable data, we are building an unprecedented dataset that illuminates the challenges, patterns, and systemic issues in accessing public information in Turkey.
By monitoring the progress and identifying any gaps or deficiencies in FoI implementation, the platform advocates for improvements and contribute to a more transparent and accountable governance system, particularly with respect to protecting and advancing fundamental human rights.
The platform serves three key functions:
- Comprehensive Monitoring: We meticulously track response times, quality, and completeness of government institutions’ responses, creating a detailed performance assessment framework
- Advanced Data Analysis: We employ sophisticated analytical tools to uncover meaningful insights about FOI request patterns, success rates, common challenges, and institutional responsiveness
- Strategic Reporting: We transform our findings into actionable reports and recommendations to help stakeholders navigate the FOI landscape more effectively
Through this pioneering work, we aim to strengthen transparency and accountability in public institutions while empowering journalists, civil society organizations, and citizens to exercise their right to access public information.
